Felicity Jones Discusses a Possible Return as ‘Rogue One’ Heroine Jyn Erso

In a new interview, actress Felicity Jones discussed a possible return of her Rogue One character Jyn Erso to the Star Wars universe, and seemed open to the idea.

The interview with the Hollywood Reporter focused on a variety of issues, including her newest film The Midnight Sky, directed by George Clooney.

However, her comments about a possible return of Jyn Erso in a future Star Wars project may have surprised many fans. Given the fact that (SPOILER!) her character seemingly died in a Death Star blast at the end of the film, it seemed unlikely that Jones would return to the Star Wars universe. Besides voicing the character of Jyn Erso for a series of Star Wars animated shorts, there was little hope she would reprise the character.

And yet, Hollywood Reporter writer Tatiana Siegel asked Jones about such a return. Siegel mentioned that Disney has reportedly extended an option for Jones to reprise the character, and that Erso’s fate was “unclear” at the end of Rogue One (although we think it seemed definitive she was dead).

Although Jones did not confirm that Disney has renewed her option, she did voice interest in playing the role again. “I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe,” she said, laughing. “So, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.

“I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe, of which there are many it seems.”

Whether her possible return as Jyn Erso could be tied to the upcoming “Cassian Andor” series starring Diego Luna is unclear, although highly improbable.

Jones also mentioned that, despite some rumors, she never had any issue with being paid less than other actors in Rogue One. “In that case, I was fairly paid for what I was doing and was fairly championed. And that’s also a testament to the people that I work with who had fought on my behalf as well. And I was very lucky that it wasn’t an issue.”
