‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Coming to Theaters and HBO Max This December

Wonder Woman 1984 finally has a release date – and it’s coming to both theaters and homes.

Warner Bros. has announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will premiere on both HBO Max and American movie theaters on Christmas Day, December 25.

According to Variety, the superhero sequel will open in theaters internationally (where HBO Max is not available) on December 16. The film will be available for only a month on HBO Max.

Ann Sarnoff, chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group, explained the release decision. “This is an amazing film that really comes to life on the big screen and, working with our partners in the exhibition community, we will provide that option to consumers in the U.S. where theaters are open. We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform.”

Wonder Woman 1984 was originally scheduled to open June 5, but the pandemic caused bumps to August 14, then October 2, and finally December 25.

Director Patty Jenkins addressed the announcement on Twitter.
