John Cena Apologizes to Communist China for Calling Taiwan a “Country” (PATHETIC VIDEO)

Actor and former wrestler John Cena is apologizing to residents of China and its communist government after he referred to Taiwan as a country.

According to a report by Newsweek, Cena, who is starring in Fast & Furious 9, got into trouble with Chinese social media after he gave an interview to a Taiwanese television station earlier this month while promoting F9. “Taiwan will be the first country to see Fast & Furious 9….You’ll be the first to see the film,” he told an interviewer.

That angered many on Chinese social media, and likely the Chinese government itself. China considers the Republic of Taiwan as part of its country, and does not recognize its independence. Many countries, in order to avoid angering China, do not maintain formal relations with Taiwan, and the United Nations refuses to recognize it.

Hollywood relies on Chinese movie theaters to make money, as it is the largest market in the world outside of North America. The Chinese government can ban “offensive” movies from playing there, so studios – and actors – do all they can to keep them happy.

That’s why Cena posted a video on the Chinese social media website Sina Weibo to apologize for his sin of recognizing Taiwan as an independent country. “I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry for my mistake. Sorry, sorry. I’m very sorry. You must understand I love and respect China and Chinese people. Sorry. Goodbye,” Cena said in Chinese.

Cena’s video is being widely mocked as spineless and insincere, with some likening it to a hostage video.

Even former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is mocking Cena.

Cena has not commented on the blowback over his apology to China.
