Gonzo Goes Transgender In Episode of Disney’s ‘Muppet Babies’

Gonzo, the beloved character from Jim Henson’s Muppets, appeared to embrace transgenderism in a new episode of “Muppet Babies,” airing on the Disney Junior channel.

The episode, titled “Gonzo-rella,” recently aired on the Disney Junior network, which features programming for toddlers and pre-schoolers. The Daily Wire was among the first to report on the episode’s content.

In the episode, after hearing the Cinderella story, Gonzo tells Rizzo the Rat “I really wish I could wear one of those princess dresses,” to a ball the other Muppets are organizing.

Rizzo then reveals he is a “Fairy Ratfather” and grants Gonzo his wish, who is concerned because the girls told him he couldn’t wear a dress. Rizzo then gives him a mask to wear with the dress, so the others won’t recognize him. Gonzo arrives at the ball in disguise, and Miss Piggy and Summer Penguin ask who he is. Still afraid to reveal himself, Gonzo tells everyone he is “Princess Gonzorella.”

“Gonzorella,” of course, is the hit of the ball, and later, Piggy and Penquin tell Gonzo about the mysterious “princess” at the ball, even using the “they” pronoun while describing how he left a glass sneaker behind.

“We met the most amazing princess but they ran away,” Piggy says, “And all they left behind was this,” as Piggy held the glass sneaker.

Gonzo then proclaims “The princess who came to your ball tonight was me, I’m Gonzorella.” He then said he hid his identity “Because you all expected me to look a certain way. I don’t want you to be upset with me.”

Disney Junior posted a clip from the episode on their YouTube channel.

Candace Owens tweeted video of Gonzo’s big reveal, mocking it with the phrase “Bring back manly muppets.”

This isn’t the first time the Muppets have taken a controversial stance on LGBTQ+ issues. In 2012, the Jim Henson Company pulled out of a plan to put Muppet toys in Chick-fil-A Kid’s Meals after the chain’s CEO voiced support for traditional marriage.

Disney has not commented on the controversy.
