‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ Releases a New Trailer
Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era, giving us a tease at the plot for the anticipated sequel.
The follow-up to the acclaimed PBS series and 2019 feature film reunites the original principal cast, and adds new cast members Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.
Among the original cast members returning for the sequel are Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt and Penelope Wilton.
In the trailer, featured below, the Dowager Countess (Smith) reveals she has inherited a villa in the south of France, where the Crawley family travels for a vacation, and to discover the mysterious benefactor behind the villa.
The film releases on May 20, 2022. It was initially scheduled to release for the 2021 Christmas season, until the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the release to March 18, 2022. Last month, Universal announced another move, this time, to May 20.
Downton creator and Academy-Award® winner Julian Fellowes wrote the film’s screenplay, Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) is directing the sequel. Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge, and Fellowes are producing.
