Mego Announces the Return of Marvel Figures

At this weekend’s Power-Con in Columbus, Ohio, Mego founder Marty Abrams dropped a bombshell on fans: the company will once again produce figures based on the Marvel Comics characters. It has been nearly 40 years since the company last produced figures in the Marvel line. The legendary toy company began making its iconic 8-inch figures again in 2018 after being out of business for decades.

Mego had already secured the license to make DC Comics characters, including Batman and Superman. With the Marvel license in hand, Mego can harken back to a golden age in its history, when its “World’s Greatest Super Heroes” line of figures was first released in 1972, including characters from both DC and Marvel under one line. The figures were a massive hit at the time, making Mego a major player in the toy industry and laying the groundwork for the explosion of the action figure market in the years that followed.

No exact timeframe was given for the release of the Marvel figures, although a rough estimate of 2024 was mentioned. No character lineup was given, although if Mego follows the same approach they took with their relaunch of DC Comics figures, remakes of the original figures will come first, followed by new characters and updated versions of popular heroes. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and Thor were among the main characters released in the original line.

This year, Power Con served as host of Mego Meet, an annual mini-convention of Mego fans that has been held since 2005. Mego Corp. now participates in the event, offering announcements and answering questions.

This live video posted by Mego to their YouTube page features Marty Abrams making the announcement at their Power Con booth. The audio is not very good.

Mego also posted this live video of their panel at Power Con, discussing the upcoming releases from the company.
