‘V,’ ‘Seinfeld’ Actor Richard Herd Has Died at 87

Richard Herd, a prolific actor whose career spanned Oscar-winning films to genre shows like “Star Trek” and “V,” has died at the age of 87.

Herd died at his home in Los Angeles Wednesday from cancer-related causes, according to his wife of 40 years, actress Patricia Crowder Herd.

In a career that spanned 50 years, Richard Herd appeared in the films All the President’s Men, The China Syndrome, Get Out, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, The Onion Field, Private Benjamin, and Sgt. Bilko.

On TV, Herd appeared in “T.J. Hooker,” “Ike: The War Years,” “ER,” and “JAG.” He is perhaps best remembered for his role of Mr. Wilhelm, George Costanza’s boss with the Yankees on “Seinfeld.”

He also had impressive resume in science fiction, including playing Supreme Commander John in the 1983 NBC miniseries “V” and “V: The Final Battle.” He appeared as the Klingon L’Kor on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and Admiral Owen Paris on “Star Trek: Voyager.” He also appeared on “seaQuest2032” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”‘

Robert Duncan McNeil, who portrayed Tom Paris on “Star Trek: Voyager,” paid tribute to Herd, who played his father on the show, as an “amazing human being.”
