’13 Going on 30′ Stars Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner Reunite in Netflix’s ‘The Adam Project’ (VIDEO)
Netflix’s latest big-budget film, The Adam Project, offers a reunion of 13 Going on 30 stars Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner, and the two stars are now reminiscing about the classic comedy.
Released in 2004, the hit time-travel comedy bolstered the big-screen careers of both Ruffalo (who would go on to play the Hulk in the MCU) and Garner (who would pivot from television to hit films like Juno and The Dallas Buyers Club).
In the film, set in 1987, Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen) wishes on her 13th birthday to grow up quickly, and become the successful 30-year-old she dreams of being. She wakes up the next morning in 2004, 30 years old and a successful magazine editor (now played by Garner). Her life, though glamorous, isn’t what she expected, and she rethinks her priorities. She looks up her childhood best friend (now played by Ruffalo) and discovers (Spoiler Alert!) that he was her soulmate all along.
In The Adam Project, Garner and Ruffalo play parents to Adam Reed (played as a kid by Walker Scobell and as an adult by Ryan Reynolds). Adam is a fighter pilot in a future where time travel is possible, who discovers a troubling conspiracy. After traveling back in time to 2022, Adam teams up with his younger self on a mission to save the future.
During their press tour for the film, The Adam Project cast discussed 13 Going on 30 several times, and even Garner and Ruffalo got nostalgic about the movie and its lasting impact.

Who knew that Ryan Reynolds was a 13 Going on 30 fan? Director Shawn Levy obviously didn’t, as this interview with Sirius XM shows.
