Dominic Monaghan Joins the Cast of Star Wars: Episode IX
J.J. Abrams has a habit in bringing actors from past projects to take on a new role in his current project. He is doing so again for Star Wars Episode IX, bringing back “Lost” alum Dominic Monaghan for an as-of-yet unspecified role.
Monaghan has already made his mark in two genre franchises: the aforementioned “Lost” as Charlie, and as Merry in The Lord of the Rings.
Abrams has already cast “Felicity” and Mission Impossible III star Keri Russell in the film, and he is also likely to bring back childhood friend and “Alias” star Greg Grunberg to reprise his The Force Awakens role of Snap Wexley.
Monaghan even had some fun with the announcement, posting a sly reference on Instagram (included below).
Entertainment Weekly reports on the casting.
The latest installment in the Star Wars saga is being directed by The Force Awakens filmmaker J.J. Abrams, who also worked with Monaghan on ABC’s Lost. It’s currently filming in the U.K. with plans for a December 2019 release.
Lucasfilm and Disney had no immediate comment on the casting, but Monaghan gave a quote to Deadline saying, “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.”
Here’s his Instagram post.
