Taika Waititi’s ‘AKIRA’ Gets a Release Date

Taika Waititi, the director and producer of What We Do in the Shadows and Thor: Ragnarok has a release date for his Akira live-action remake!

Warner Brothers has announced a release date for Akira of May 21, 2021.

The cast has not been set, but Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic anime has a screenplay written by Marco Ramirez and is being produced by Otomo, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Andrew Lazar.

The story revolves around a secret military project that endangers Neo-Tokyo, when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psychic psychopath. Only two teenagers and a group of psychics can stop the menace.
