Mark Hamill Says Luke is a ‘Force Ghost’ in Episode IX (VIDEO)

At the premiere of Child’s Play Wednesday night, Mark Hamill dropped a fairly significant spoiler for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

When asked about his involvement in any possible future films, Hamill dismissed the possibility, essentially saying he was done with the franchise. He then revealed that his role in the upcoming J.J. Abrams film is as a “force ghost,” much like Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi in past films.

“I sure hope so,” Hamill laughingly said when asked if he was done with Star Wars. “Because, you know, I had closure in the last one…the fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of Star Wars mythology where if you’re a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost.”

Hamill had previously made it clear that he disagreed fundamentally with Rian Johnson’s treatment of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, so it appears he doesn’t particularly care if he drops spoilers for Episode IX. He had also previously joked that he didn’t care of he revealed something, saying “What are they going to do, fire me?”

If you watch the end of the video, Hamill gives the camera a mischievous look: he knows exactly what he’s doing, and he wants to laugh.

Here’s video of Hamill’s statement, posted to Twitter by the AP.
