REPORT: Baby Yoda More Popular Online Than Any Democratic Presidential Candidate

America is in love with the latest internet sensation – Baby Yoda, the Muppet-like character from the Star Wars series “The Mandalorian.” He is so popular, in fact, that the little creature is creating more internet buzz than the politicians hoping to be the leader of the free world.

According to a report from Axios, a study of social media traffic found that posts of Baby Yoda is averaging nearly twice as many interactions on social media than any 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

The data was compiled by NewsWhip, a site that measures social media reach, and provided exclusively to Axios. Newswhip measures activity on the major social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, among others.

Baby Yoda’s popularity is bad news for the newest Democratic candidates to enter the race, Michael Bloomberg and Deval Patrick. They entered the race within days of the character’s first appearance on “The Mandalorian.” As a result, their impact on social media has been effectively drowned out.

Ever since his debut in November on the Disney+ streaming service, Baby Yoda has dominated memes and social media posts around the world.

According to the story, a social media post on Baby Yoda generated 1,671 interactions, on average. By comparison, most of the Democratic presidential candidates cannot manage even half of the number of interactions as the tiny puppet.

Bernie Sanders is the closest competitor to Baby Yoda, but the socialist candidate is only managing 850 interactions per social media post, on average. Following behind him is former vice president Joe Biden, with 839 interactions per post, on average.

Wallowing at the bottom of the list is Mike Bloomberg with a sad 173 interactions per post, on average, followed by Amy Klobuchar with 143 interactions. Running dead last is newcomer Deval Patrick – he can only manage 134 interactions per social media post.

Twitter Responds

MSNBC’s Kate Rooney made it clear who she is supporting, in a tongue-in-cheek tweet.

Apparently, the report kick-started the Yoda 2020 campaign for people unimpressed by the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates.

Others seemed a bit too desperate to try to give their preferred candidate some of the character’s mojo.

Others used the story to take shots at the Democratic candidates.

Others pointed out what bad news the story was for Bloomberg and Patrick.

Little Yoda has yet to comment on the story or any political aspirations.

“The Mandalorian” airs new episodes on Fridays on the Disney+ streaming service.
