#CancelDisneyPlus Trends on Twitter After Lucasfilm Fires Gina Carano

Wednesday evening, Lucasfilm announced that Gina Carano was fired from “The Mandalorian” over what is being characterized in the media as “offensive” tweets. The announcement cased outrage among her fans, who feel she is being targeted for her conservative views.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” Lucasfilm said in a statement reported by Variety. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano posted an image that called for an end to hate against others for their political views, comparing it to tactics used by the Nazis against Jews. That triggered the Twitter mob, and Lucasfilm caved to their demands.

In response, fans of Carano made the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus trend #1 on Twitter.
