Michael B. Jordan to Direct ‘Creed III’

Michael B. Jordan is following the example of his former on-screen mentor Sylvester Stallone and directing the next installment in the Creed film series.

MGM has announced that Jordan will direct Creed III, with a planned release date of November 23, 2022. it will be Jordan’s directoral debut.

Stallone directed Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky Balboa in the acclaimed film series.

Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are expected to return for the film, which is written by Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) and based on an outline by Ryan Coogler.

In a statement, Jordan said “Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. ‘Creed III’ is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of ‘Creed III’ are deeply personal to me. I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Adonis Creed’s story with the awesome responsibility of being its director and namesake.”

Jordan stars as Adonis “Creed” Johnson, son of Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers in the Rocky films).
