James Gunn Reveals New ‘The Suicide Squad’ Poster
Director James Gunn has revealed the poster for The Suicide Squad, and it as a definite grindhouse-type of feel.
The film, due to be released on August 6 in theaters and on HBO Max, is a “reset” of sorts of David Ayer’s 2016 disastrous Suicide Squad, which was widely panned by critics and comic fans alike. Returning from the Ayer film is the one bright spot: Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn. Also returning are Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
New cast members include Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Peter Capaldi as Thinker, Nathan Fillion as T.D.K., Michael Rooker as Savant, and Sylvester Stallone, whose role has not been revealed.
The plot involves the members of the “Squad” traveling to Corto Maltese to destroy a prison and laboratory built by the Nazis called Jotunheim.
Gunn tweeted out the poster’s image earlier today.
I’ll just drop this here. Did I mention that a trailer is coming tomorrow? #TheSuicideSquad pic.twitter.com/VmB9n0rFSZ

There’s been speculation that the film will strike a tone similar to the classic film The Dirty Dozen, which shares many of the same themes. The poster also resembles artwork used to promote the Lee Marvin actioner.
