Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen is joining Harrison Ford in the cast of the next Indiana Jones film, scheduled to begin filming this summer.

Deadline exclusively reported the news earlier today.

Lucasfilm had previously confirmed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had been cast as the female lead in the film, which will be directed by James Mangold (Ford vs. Ferrari, Logan) Steven Spielberg will serve as a producer and is involved in the creative process. George Lucas is listed as providing the story, but it appears he will not be directly involved in the film’s production. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel join Spielberg as producers. John Williams will compose the score.

Details of the plot are not known, and production is expected to begin this summer. The film will open July 29, 2022.

Mikkelsen, who also starred in the James Bond film Casino Royale, Doctor Strange, and the critically-acclaimed series “Hannibal,” will play an unspecified role in the Indiana Jones sequel. So far, Harrison Ford is the only returning cast member from previous films.
