‘Rocky IV: The Director’s Cut’ Has a New Title – And Here’s When You Can See It

On Instagram today, Sylvester Stallone announced to his nearly 13 million followers several updates on the Rocky IV director’s cut he has been teasing since last year.

Stallone first posted a clip from a full-length documentary he has been filming that covers his journey of re-cutting the film, 35 years after its release. He then announced that the director’s cut would be titled Rocky vs. Drago: The Ultimate Director’s Cut.

He later shared a picture of Drago (Dolph Lundgren) giving Rocky a cheap shot in the ribs. In the comments, a follower asked when fans can expect to see the finished film. He responded with “fall,” but a later response was more specific. “Probably November,” he told a commenter. “Almost all the “Rockys” came out at that time – actually all of them did.” (Punctuation added for clarity)

Stallone wasn’t clear on whether the film would be a theatrical or Blu-ray release. However, considering he is filming a documentary to go with the film, it would most likely be for a home video release. In all likelihood, it would be a Blu-ray/4K release with a limited theatrical run.

Last August, Stallone revealed that Paulie’s Robot wouldn’t be in the final cut, saying he was never a fan of it.
