Watch Kevin Costner Lead Ballplayers from the Cornfield at the Field of Dreams Game (VIDEO)

Thursday’s ‘Field of Dreams’ game in Dyersville, Iowa was everything fans hoped it would be, including an ending that seemed scripted in Hollywood.

The game introduction was a stirring moment itself, as actor Kevin Costner returned to the site of his classic film to lead The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees from the cornfield and onto the field. Video of the introductions is included below.

The game was originally scheduled last year, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which led to a shortened baseball season. An MLB-regulation sized field was built adjacent to the farmhouse and field where the classic 1989 film was shot, complete with a cornfield just beyond the outfield wall.

The game itself was fantastic, with Yankee Aaron Judge smacking two home runs and Giancarlo Stanton hitting a two-run homer in the top of the 9th to put New York ahead of the Sox 8-7. However, it was Chicago’s Tim Anderson with the last say, as his two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the White Sox a 9-8 win. Fun fact: the first time a White Sox player hit a walk-off homer against the Yankees was 1919, and the player was Shoeless Joe Jackson, a featured character in Field of Dreams.

While the game ended with fireworks (literally), the game introductions will be equally remembered. Costner, who played farmer Ray Kinsella in the classic film, walked out from the cornfield beyond center field. He was followed by players from both teams, providing a surreal moment. You can watch it all here.

If that wasn’t cool enough, here’s another clip from the Fox Sports Telecast, with the iconic James Earl Jones providing a voiceover welcome to viewers.
