Bakery Creates 6-Foot ‘Frozen Han Solo’ Bread

A bakery in Benicia, California has taken Star Wars fandom to the next level, creating a six-foot-high recreation of Han Solo frozen in carbonite, made out of bread.

The edible sculpture is the creation of Hannalee Pervan and her mother, Catherine Pervan, owners of One House Bakery in Benicia, north of San Francisco, where Lucasfilm is now based. After a month of work after hours to sculpt the details out of dough, the recreation of Han Solo’s frozen plight from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is now on display outside of their shop, with a sign reading “Our hero Pan Solo has been trapped in Levainite by the evil Java the Hut.”

“Pan Solo” was made as part of an annual contest in the town to make unusual scarecrows for Halloween. The duo used “dead dough,” a special dough concoction with no yeast, to sculpt the face and hands in an almost perfect replica. It had to be baked in a special, large oven, but the results are spectacular.

This isn’t the first time they’ve made an unusual bread sculpture; in 2018, they made a Iron Throne (from Game of Thrones) made with baguettes called “Game of Scones,” and in 2020, they created “The Pandoughlorian,” “Baby Dough-da,” and “The Pandroid” to pay tribute to The Mandalorian characters. Last year, they made “Doughki,” based on Alligator Loki from the Disney+ series, and Han Solo made of bread is the latest endeavor. They can all be seen in the video clip below.

Even Mark Hamill weighed in on the Han Solo bread sculpture.

Here’s a report by Inside Edition on Pan Solo and its creators.
