Harrison Ford is Joining the MCU – Here’s Who He Is Playing

Just when you thought Marvel had cast every available actor in the universe, they managed to nab perhaps the most iconic actor of all: Harrison Ford.

During a livestream on YouTube, The Hot Mic with John Rocha and Jeff Sneider reported that Marvel has recruited Ford to play Secretary of State Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing actor William Hurt, who passed away in March at the age of 71 from prostate cancer. Hurt had most recently portrayed Secretary Ross most recently in 2021’s Black Widow and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Ford will first play Ross in Captain America: New World Order, which opens on May 3, 2024. He will also play the role in Thunderbolts, which opens July 26, 2024. Marvel Studios has not officially announced the casting, but multiple media sources have confirmed it.

Captain America: New World Order will star Anthony Mackie in the lead role, and is also expected to star Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley. Thunderbolts is expected to star Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.

The character of Thaddeus Ross will have a “substantial role” in Thunderbolts, which is expected, given the character’s place in the Thunderbolts story, and a change from how Marvel featured him when Hurt played the role. The film will be the finale to Phase 5 of the MCU.

Thunderbolts will be directed by Jake Schreier.
