Here’s Why Judith From ‘The Walking Dead’ Looks So Familiar
Rick Grimes may be gone from “The Walking Dead,” but his legacy lives on in his daughter Judith Grimes, played by actress Cailey Fleming. If she looks familiar to you, however, there’s a reason for that. Fleming appeared in one of the biggest movies in recent years, though you might not realize it.
The Picayune, Mississippi native joined the cast of”The Walking Dead” this season, after a “time jump” moved the storyline forward six years, and an older Judith was needed. Sporting her father’s hat and gun, Judith has quickly become a fan favorite on the show, even as series regulars Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan have left.
Fleming brings a lively feistiness to the role, and her character has even managed to win over her father’s former nemesis Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
In a memorable scene from this season, Judith squares off against Negan.
Fleming, who just turned 12, entered acting when she signed with a Louisiana agency. Her other acting credits include the Jennifer Garner action film Peppermint, the FX series “Better Things,” the AMC series “Preacher,” and The Book of Love. She also appeared in a certain space opera.
Cailey had a brief but memorable appearance as a young Rey in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

According to ThisIsInsider.com, her Star Wars performance wasn’t the deciding factor in winning the role of Judith. “We did a very wide-ranging search for Judith. We had so many amazing little girls audition, just so much talent regionally,” showrunner Angela Kang told the website. “Cailey just had the most amazing read. Me, and the other executive producers, we all just sparked to her. She just had this kind of liveliness and light and such intelligence in her eyes, and just made such great choices.”
“She came in and she had so much personality and life and was a great person. We just knew she’d be a perfect fit for the cast,” Kang said.
“The Walking Dead” airs Sunday night on AMC.
