Rian Johnson Tweets Approval of Video Mocking Christian Youth
Rian Johnson, the man who forever ruined Star Wars with his disastrous film The Last Jedi, took to Twitter to make make fun of young Christians.
Over the weekend, Johnson tweeted his approval of a comedy video that mocks a church youth group leader. The video was accompanied with the notation “If you ever wanted to know what it was like growing up in a Christian conservative household and attending youth group. This is it.”
The director then revealed that he was raised in the Christian church and attended church youth groups. When asked if he had watched a documentary that negatively portrays Christian summer camps, he said he had not, claiming “I don’t know if I can handle it,” indicating a negative experience with having been raised in the Christian faith.
At a time when our culture is focusing so specifically on the mental-well being of our youth and striving to end bullying, Johnson should be using his platform to promote tolerance across the board. Instead, he is using his negative experience with church youth groups to mock an entire faith that many young people hold dear while they struggle with acceptance.
In the past, Johnson has discussed his Christian upbringing and even mentioned that he grew up listening to Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith before moving on to Christian rock as a teen. He is no longer a practicing Christian, saying God is “a structure that’s within my own psyche…All of that stuff is as real as anything. It’s just interior as opposed to exterior.”
Here is Johnson calling a video mocking a young Christian as “terrifyingly perfect.”
Answering responses to the video, Johnson mentioned his Christian upbringing.
Johnson then showed is disdain for his youth group experience by dismissing watching a documentary on the subject.
