Mego World’s Greatest Superheroes Returning for Its 50th Anniversary

Mego is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic “World’s Greatest Superheroes” line by bringing it back in a limited-edition boxed series.

Paul Clarke, aka Dr. Mego, made the announcement during Mego’s livestream discussion on Friday night. The “World’s Greatest Superheroes” line featured a number of DC characters during its heyday of the 1970s. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the line’s debut, Mego will reissue four figures, just as they looked in October of 1972 when they first went on sale in New York City: Superman, Batman, Robin, and Aquaman, complete with the “oven mitt” gloves. Batman will be the “removeable cowl” version, and Robin will be the “removeable mask” version. Best of all, the figures will come in retro-styled window boxes, reproduced exactly like the ones from 1972.

The figures will be available later this year, and thankfully, will be available through multiple retailers, and not as an exclusive. It was also announced that more characters from the series will be released in the future.

This picture of the original World’s Greatest Superheroes in package shows what the reissues will look like.

Here is the Mego livestream during which the figures were announced. It is hosted by Mego representatives and enthusiasts.
